Dental X-rays during pregnancy Question
I have an inflamed nerve requiring root canal work and I am four months pregnant. Is it safe to have an X-ray?
Answer
Provided that adequate precautions (such as the wearing of a lead apron) are taken, then there is no harm to you or your baby if you have an X-ray scan. It is interesting that although such procedures are common and these precautions are generally taken, pregnant women are often reluctant to have X-rays when they are genuinely needed. The stress caused by toothache can have a more profound effect on an unborn baby than the taking of necessary X-rays.
