Pamper your body while you sleep

When you sleep you're getting more than just rest; it's also the time when your body is focusing on healing and repairing itself. So, what better time to pamper your body than just before you go to sleep?

This has been a nightly ritual for me, lately: I end the day with a bath and then massage body oil all over my clean skin; then I apply a blend of oils on my clean face; rub a rich hand cream on my feet before slipping on a pair of cotton socks; and curl up on the couch to read a chapter of whatever book I'm reading.

You see, I have recently moved to a very dry climate; the middle of the desert, to be precise. It's hot. Really hot. It's the dry kind of heat that sucks all the moisture from you. So, I've been doing all that I can to keep well hydrated and maintain the soft dewy look and feel of my skin.

I've been guzzling down glasses and glasses of water, coconut water, herbal tea and anything else I can sip on. And while that certainly does work wonders, my nightly pamper ritual is "the cherry on top". I wake up each morning with soft yummy skin; it's a treat not only for me, but for my boyfriend as well.

The secret is all in the type of oils you apply. Forget nasty mineral oils that prevent your skin from breathing. Choose 100 percent natural oil blends instead. My favourites are sweet almond oil, rosehip oil and jojoba oil.

Sweet almond oil helps to soften and smooth the skin and contains essential fatty acids which are essential for healthy skin.

Jojoba oil is known as nature's wrinkle fighter. It forms a thin non-greasy lipid layer that holds water in the skin. At the same time it penetrates the intercellular skin structure leaving skin soft and supple, and smoothing out fine lines, including stretch marks and scars.

Rosehip oil contains high levels of vitamin C, as well as vitamins A, E and D. These vitamins can be extremely beneficial in the regeneration and repair of your skin, helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines, scars and pigmentation. Rosehip oil nourishes and moisturises dry skin for softer and smoother skin and helps to restore your skin's healthy glow.

It sounds almost too good to be true, doesn't it? I promise it's not. Try it out for a week or two and you'll be oh so pleasantly surprised.
