Hands up who ate too much over Christmas? Keep your hands up if you also drank too much. Yup, thought it wasn't just me. A Christmas-time of extreme overindulgences left me feeling sluggish, tired and in a permanent haze not to mention struggling to do the zip up on my trusty black jeans.
And while I assumed that I would get back on track in January, well, that just wasn't the case. So a detox of sorts (nothing too extreme) was on the cards hello Dietlicious 5-day detox.
This home-delivery detox program claims to rebalance and re-vitalise by eliminating chemicals and toxins within the body. The menus are preservative, additive, dairy, wheat and red meat free. It's also recommended that you stay away from coffee and alcohol for the five days and drink at least two litres of water per day.
A typical day on the program looks like this:
- First up Lemon and water
- Breakfast Mango and chia seed smoothie
- Mid-morning Fruit and nut mix
- Lunch Risotto provencale w tuna
- Mid-afternoon Seasonal fruit and ginger tea
- Dinner Tasmanian salmon w chermoula w spring vegetables
- Snack Seasonal fruit
The day before my detox began my box of Dietlicious food arrived. My breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks were all included. This is what drew me to the program, no preparation required, just pop your food in your bag for the day and off you go.
The first two days on the program (going cold turkey on coffee and sugar) were not as tough as I expected. I imagined that I would be plagued with caffeine-withdrawal headaches and hunger pangs, but these were only mild. And the food really was delicious. My favourite was the Tasmanian salmon with chermoula. Very tasty!
After three days on the program, I noticed that my 'fogginess' had cleared I was able to think clearer at work and got a lot more out of the day. I didn't realise how much my diet had been affecting my concentration until I cut out the junk.
During my five-day cleanse, I also had two personal training sessions with the lovely Natalie Carter from New Outlook Fitness. During these sessions Natalie identified my weaknesses bad posture from my desk job, not much core strength and weak glutes and tailored a fitness program to suit me. I couldn't walk for three days after the first session but it really boosted my resolve to start exercising again regularly.
After the five-day detox I really wanted to continue the good work so I signed up for another five days! At the end of the program I had lost two kilos and my skin was looking all glowy. After the program I was ready to get back on track with my own meal plans, leaving my days of take-away behind me.
The 5-day cleanse costs $180, excluding delivery. Dietlicious is Sydney based, but orders can be taken from Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Southern Highlands, Central Coast, Wollongong, and Newcastle. For more information, visit www.dietlicious.com.au/cleanse.
