Staying motivated during winter
Staying motivated during winter can be hard. Cold, wet and windy weather makes it seem almost ridiculous to leave the comfort of your home to exercise— but with a few key behaviours observed, you can enjoy your winter workout!

Start by wearing appropriate clothing, eating well and staying hydrated but most of all, make a firm commitment to continue your training — and follow through!

Keeping active through winter is important when managing your shape so that come summer, you are ready to hit the beach and feel comfortable in your swimsuit.

Tips for motivation during winter

  • Join a sporting team: grab the girls and register your own Tuesday night netball team. You could also join a sporting club, as this will see you train as well as compete.
  • Register for an event: sign up for a fun run, half marathon or triathlon and then get training! Aim for the event to be towards the end of winter, so that you have to train throughout the season.
  • Workout with a friend: having a friend to train with means you’re more likely to exercise regularly — if you don't show up, you let yourself down as well as your friend.
  • Take an active holiday: hit the ski slopes or go to an island resort where there is tennis, lots of snorkeling and sightseeing.
  • Workout at home: get some workout DVDs and a few pieces of basic fitness equipment and workout in the comfort of your own home, at a time convenient to you.
  • Get a trainer: invest in a personal trainer. Trainers are not only there to push you further, they can monitor your exercise technique and as well as your fitness progression.
