Question:

I swim three times a week with a squad but I would like to know what other exercise I could do to help improve my swimming. My arms are my weakness in the pool, should I do weights?

Answer:
The best exercises to improve your swimming is strength training with weights to increase your power and overall strength and speed and cardio training such as running or cycling to increase your overall fitness.

Stretching and flexibility work focusing on the back and shoulder will also help you stay supple and give you a better range of movement.

The best muscle groups to focus on to improve your swimming are the shoulders, back, triceps and core.

Speak with a personal trainer and mix up your training to include free weights, body weight and machine weight exercises.

You will be surprised at the extra power you will generate in the water!
