Question:
Can you recommend a form of yoga to help me manage my asthma? I have tried ashtanga and Bikram but they are both quite difficult.
Answer:
It is really a personal choice to what style of yoga you decide to do to deal with your asthma. Any style that focuses on breathing techniques, which yogis call pranayama, meaning to expand vital energy, will have benefits. Any focus you give on learning gentle pranayama techniques that you can do yourself will also be of great benefit too.
The physical styles such as Bikram and ashtanga may not suit you. Power Vinyasa Yoga basic classes or Anusara classes are still dynamic but are tailored to westerners starting yoga later in life and can sometimes be more accessible and provide a building block to stronger practice.
