"I gave birth to seven children"

Tuesday, May 9, 2006
I have had seven children — all natural births. My first labour was three-and-a-half-hours long. Labour times got shorter with each child, except for my second youngest, I was in labour with him for seven-and-a-half hours. He was 10 pounds three-and-a-half-ounces and he was extremely long.

My youngest gave me no warning of her arrival. I went to get a drink of water, but didn't make it to the kitchen. I only got as far as the dining room when I got the first contraction — upon which my waters broke and her head delivered. At the second contraction the rest of her was delivered. I had no warning or pain at all before that. My husband said he needed a catcher's mitt for her! She was a healthy eight pounds and one ounce and she was born with all her brothers and sisters looking on, as they were at the breakfast table at the time. She was in a hurry to arrive and has been in a hurry to do everything ever since.
