Change your life in a lunchbreak: VelaShape at Complete Radiance

An estimated 90 percent of women over 20 have it. All of us loathe it. Cellulite is the dimpled demon keeping the vast majority of women in mortal fear of thigh exposure.

The medical establishment once argued it even existed but we women, all-too-bitterly convinced, have been urgently dabbling in creams, body brushing and anti-cellulite diets for decades.

The real rub is, avoiding caffeine and salt (while slapping it on our legs) might be good for our health but has it done much for our orange-peel? As a beauty editor, you get to try a lot of different products, and this is the first salon treatment that's got us thinking cellulite could finally have a worthy opponent.

What is it?

The VelaShape is a killer combo of radio frequency, infrared light and vacuum-pressure rollers which heat and massage the skin; stimulating circulation, encouraging collagen production and literally shrinking fat cells. This is the stuff dreams are made of, basically.

VelaShape is the most proven cellulite treatment available today and the only non-surgical medical device cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration. Plus, along with a wad of compelling data, comes word it's adored by Jennifer Aniston, Sharon Stone and Kim Kardashian, who apparently likes a session every month.

Too good to be true?

Yep, that's what we thought too, but after one 45-minute treatment there were undeniable improvements. For the road test we focused on the traditional "areas of concern": the upper arms and thighs.

Divya Hegde, the VelaShape whiz at Complete Radiance, measured over a centimetre's reduction in each arm, and there was visible firmness and skintone smoothness. By visit six we were genuinely excited; this made a big difference to those bumpy bits. Bye-bye bingo arms and hello mini dresses.

Does it hurt?

No, it gets hot, and skin looks a little red and bruised afterwards but in comparison to other fat-burning schemes we've tried (cardio-spin, anyone?) this is pretty painless.

What you can expect

Six to eight weekly appointments are recommended for optimum results. You can have a bikini-worthy bum in six weeks. Although VelaShape is aimed squarely at treating the appearance of cellulite, clinical trials also report an average range of 2cm to 7.5cm fat reduction.

Would we recommend it?

Hell yes. We were thrilled by this treatment in way we rarely are with, well, anything. It's an orange-peel zapping treatment that leaves your skin tighter and smoother than a teen's with absolutely no reported side effects. For our money, this is better than liposuction. If we had Kardashian's cash we'd be doing it every month too.

Get some smooth

The VelaShape is $175 per session at Complete Radiance, Studio 3, 473-475 Pacific Highway, Crows Nest NSW 2065 and throughout NSW. Visit www.completeradiance.com.au or phone 0425 370 607.

At-home treatment: Beauty Mouse

VelaShape is the best in-salon treatment we've come across, and this nifty little gadget is well worth a try for home use. It feels just like a regular computer mouse in your hand, but roll it over your thighs and its micro-rollers give your circulation a kick up the backside.

Lack of circulation is considered the key cause of cellulite. This is Therapeutic Goods Administration-approved and proven to smooth that peel. The RRP is $250 (but one mouse lasts all year), get yours at Clinic Care by calling 1300 799 709 or visit www.beautymouse.com.au for more information.
