Reality TV star Heidi Montag has admitted to undergoing a procedure that even she can't explain.

The star of MTV's The Hills, who is now more famous for undergoing 10 cosmetic surgery procedure in one day than her TV career, appeared on On Air with Ryan Seacrest radio show last Monday and baffled audiences when she admitted to undergoing a mystery surgery.

After rattling off the impressive list of work she'd had done which included breast augmentation, liposuction, waist cinching and work on her chin and nose, Montag added she also, " had my back scooped." Huh?

When asked to explain the surgery, she said, "I actually didn't know. I might be the first one to try it. It carves out your back a little bit."

So just what is this mysterious procedure?

"'Back scooping' is probably a term that Heidi made up for the liposuction of the love-handle, back-of-hips area," plastic surgeon Dr Anthony Youn told MSNBC.

The surgery actually does create a "scoop like", concave appearance of the back, but Montag is certainly not the first to try it — it's becoming a popular procedure in the fight against muffin top.

"It's actually my favorite area to liposuction, since we can get such impressive results there," Youn said. "It is also one of the only areas that can be effectively liposuctioned on a person who is otherwise very thin."

Montag also added that although she "has a great body now", plastic surgery has its downsides.

"I'm very weird about hugging people now, [my body] is very fragile," she said. She's also added her now size-F breasts rule out going for a jog.
