If you were to go ahead with whitening, I would speculate that you would experience a significant degree of sensitivity.

Question:
I have extremely sensitive teeth and was wondering if this would be a problem as I want to have my teeth whitened.

Answer:

You will certainly find that whitening can be a very painful experience in your case. Often whitening procedures cause transient sensitivity of varying degrees in many people, but this is completely reversible. If you were to go ahead with whitening, I would speculate that you would experience a significant degree of sensitivity. I would recommend seeing your dentist about the cause of sensitivity and have that treated first. There are various reasons, including decay, faulty fillings, grinding and gum recession. There are different treatments required for all of these and I would urge you to have that treated before undergoing any whitening process.
