It's that time of year again when we all (or most of us) feel the need to purge. Out with those nasty, unhealthy habits and in with a new, puritan way of life.
Junk food is out, fresh organic vegies are in. Wine is out, mineral water is in. You get the drift. And it's not just us "regular" bods that feel the need to overhaul the old lifestyle; there are more than a few celebrities who have room to improve their act.
Health & Wellbeing has taken a little look at the stars' bad habits and suggested a few resolutions that might make 2009 a healthier, more fruitful year.
Jessica Alba
Having spent the majority of 2008 snapped with a face of doom, this year's resolution could be to smile more. Smiling and laughing release feel-good endorphins into the body, lifting your spirit and mood. Being a young mum is no mean feat but with an enviable post-baby body and Hollywood at her feet, it's time to cheer up!
Eva Longoria Parker
Having repeatedly made headlines for gaining a few kilos during the filming of Desperate Housewives, it seems the diminutive star is making dieting her main 2009 resolution. Her method of choice? Going vegie. If this is her move, Health hopes the sexy star keeps it balanced. Putting weight before health is a bad habit!
Oprah Winfrey
Having struggled for decades to maintain a healthy weight, 2008 saw Oprah pile on the kilos that once plagued her. "I'm mad at myself," she said. "I can't believe that after all these years, all the things I know how to do, I'm still talking about my weight. I look at my thinner self and think, 'How did I let this happen again?'" Her resolution? Stop beating yourself up and start again, Oprah. We all slip up and the key is to keep going.
Jennifer Aniston
Jennifer seems to have come out of her shell with regards to the break-up of her marriage to Brad Pitt with a series of candid interviews in 2008. This year is all about moving on for Jen. We imagine a family is at the top on her to-do list for 2009, but with any life-changing decision, we hope her resolution is well thought through.
Britney Spears
The past two years have been an emotional rollercoaster for the pop princess. Despite losing custody of her boys, Spears' resolution for the year will undoubtedly be to spend as much time with them as possible. We hope her career resurrection goes to plan, too.
Lindsay Lohan
The fact the perennial party girl had settled down in 2008 seemed too good to be true, but reports the starlet had fallen off the wagon towards the end of the year were rife. Footage of Lohan swigging vodka straight from the bottle at a club was hardly the wholesome image she has been working on. This year we'd like to see Lindsay have fun but in moderation. Drink responsibly for the sake of body and mind.
Lily Allen
Another young starlet with a penchant for alcohol, Lily has had a tough trot in 2008. She's endured the pain of a miscarriage, the break-up of a relationship and more then one alcohol-fuelled public rant. This year, we hope, like Lindsay, Lily puts living life in moderation at the top of her list of priorities. With a habit of yo-yo dieting too, balance could be the key to a more successful year.
Sienna Miller
Sienna has endured more than a little bashing from the media in 2008 following her affair with married father of four, Balthazar Getty. You can't help who you fall for, but when it comes to love, 2009 could involve thinking through actions before rushing in.
Nicole Kidman
Last year saw the birth of Nicole's first biological child, Sunday Rose, as well as the release of the epic film Australia. So what could her 2009 resolution be? Well, given critics slamming her as a wooden performer, could it be time to lay off the rumoured Botox injections?
