Men's minds turn to sex almost 5000 times a year says a new study — but they're only doing the deed 104 times in that time.

Researchers at market research company OnePoll .com found that men think about sex, on average, 13 times a day, which equates to 4745 times a year, the UK's Daily Telegraph reported.

A third of the males admitted sex was often the first thing they thought about when they woke up in the morning.

Women on the other hand, think about sex an average of five times a day or 1825 times a year.

''Men are well-known for thinking about sex a lot, but to find out exactly how often is staggering," a Onepoll.com spokesman said.

''It seems blokes have sex on the brain whether they are going through a dry spell or jumping between the sheets on a regular basis," he said.

''So when you catch your man staring into space, you know what he's likely to be thinking about.''

The study of 3000 people found that when it comes to actually having sex however, men are having to make do with twice a week, or 104 times a year. But, three-quarters of the males claimed to be happy with this amount.

Just 58 percent of women claimed they were happy with the amount of sex they were getting.

The study also found that 43 percent of couples fought over who initiates sex, with men more likely to make the first move in the bedroom.

And the best mood-setting for lovemaking? One in three men think a candlelit dinner, followed by a massage is a winner, while women are more likely to play romantic music or cook their partner's favourite meal.
