Welcome to the Shape Mate Navigator tool!

Thursday, April 9, 2009

The Navigator tool is used to plan fitness routes, using real maps and distance measurements.

On it, you can plan running, walking, hiking, biking routes, cycling and even pet walking routes, at whatever distance you like. You can name and save the routes, and add them to your personal fitness calendar. Here’s how:

Step 1: Sign up or Log on

To use the Navigator tool, you need to create a Shape Mate account. It’s easy and free, and enables you to access all our personalised tools on the site! Just click on the ‘Sign up’ icon in the top right-hand corner of the page, and enter your details. If you were a Map My Fitness member you are automatically a member of Shape Mate so just click “log on” and enter the username and password you had for Map My Fitness. You can also sign up to our newsletter here which gives you access to exclusive content.

To sign up, click the lnk, and enter your details.

Step 2: Create a route

Click on “Create a Route” to begin. To find a location, zoom in or out by double-clicking with your mouse. To move the map, click and drag with your mouse. When you’ve found your area and starting point, click on the “draw” button. Place your cursor on your starting point, and click on the map to create points along your route. When you’re finished, save your map. Enter a title, a description, and any tags that might help in searching for it. HINT: if you reached the end of your map while drawing your route, right-click your mouse and drag the map.

Step 3: Using your maps

Your maps automatically upload into the ‘Your Maps’ tab, where you can keep track of them and update them as you like. Your maps can be loaded on to the Fitness Calendar, too! For more on how to use the Fitness Calendar, click here or visit the Fitness Calendar section.

If you click on the ‘My Progress’ tab, you will see the routes that are synced with your calendar. You can see the dates you’ve listed them, the map name, the distance and the average time. Here, you can keep a log of your progress, and track how far you’ve gone and how quickly you’ve done it!

You can also search and book mark routes other users have created. Clicking on the ‘Search Maps’ tab, you can enter a search term like “Bondi beach”, and the Navigator will show you all the maps listed in that area. Here, you can find new routes to explore.
